IATA (International Air Transport Association) released the latest revised version of the 59th Dangerous Goods Transport Rules this month, many of which involve the air transport of lithium batteries. The new rules will be implemented from January 2018. The main changes in lithium battery air transport rules include:
1. It is stipulated that the height of the UN code number in the lithium battery mark (Lithiumbatterymark) shall not be less than 12mm.
2. Added isolation rules for lithium batteries: restricting lithium ion batteries (UN3480, PI965SectionIAorIB) and lithium metal batteries (UN3090, PI968SectionIAorIB) and explosives (Class1), ammunition (Division1.4S), and flammable gases (Division2.1 ), flammable liquids (Class 3), flammable solids or self-reactive substances or solid desensitized explosives (Division 4.1), and oxidants (Division 5.1) are packaged in the same outer packaging, and corresponding text content is added. hint.
Lithium cells and batteries of PI965 and PI968SectionII must not be packed into the same outer packaging as other dangerous goods.
3. The total number of portable electronic devices (PEDs) carried by passengers or crew members on flights is limited to no more than 15, and the number of spare batteries cannot exceed 20. If the above number is exceeded, approval from the carrier airline is required.
4. In 2016, the G-27 Committee (G-27Committee) was established under the auspices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to study and formulate new lithium battery air transport packaging standards, but it was not released in this announcement. Once the new standard is developed, ICAO will incorporate it into the air transport packaging guidelines in the DGRTI technical guidance standard, and promulgate and implement it.
